Huskies devour Jr. Canucks 10-Zero to start exhibition play – Alaska Freeway Information

Finally, after a very long wait, the Fort St. John Huskies and Dawson Creek Junior Canucks got some game action in Friday night with the first of hopefully five exhibition games.

The game couldn’t have gone better for the Huskies, who won 10-0, and led the Canucks 40-16 in shots on goal.

The two teams played at the Pomeroy Sport Centre, with no fans in attendance, and each of the teams’ non-dressed players sitting at opposite ends of the same set of bleachers.

The Huskies, playing nine rookies, are a new and young team, but found their way as the game went along. After only scoring three times in the first two periods, they broke up with seven goals in the third against a visibly-tired Canucks team.

Veterans Jared Winkel, Dean Whitcomb, and Logan Kimmie led the Huskies with two goals each, while rookie defenceman Duncan Ross had a goal and an assist.

Since the next games aren’t scheduled, the Huskies chose to play both goalies, giving them 30 minutes each to get them into game mode.

Returning player Tyler McArthur started the game, with newcomer Jackson Powers taking over in the second half. They didn’t have a busy night, but looked good nonetheless, getting the collective shutout.

More to come.
